We will observe our annual parish feast day: the Feast of the Holy Cross on Sunday, September 18. This year we will again offer a time for folks to walk onto the chancel and view and touch the stone cross embedded in our altar. The stone, carved in the shape of the cross, is from the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, in Jerusalem.
We will also have a parish-wide continental breakfast Sunday morning from 9:00 to 10:30 AM in the parish hall. This will give us all a chance to spend time together as we step more fully into the fall season at Grace.
We hope you plan to be here this Sunday, September 18, to observe our parish feast day!
I am thankful that Canon Weltner can be with us at the 10:45 AM service this Sunday, September 18, as we celebrate our parish feast day.
Alicia, as Canon to the Ordinary, is the Chief of Staff to the Bishop of Atlanta, (the bishop is the “ordinary” of the diocese, in traditional language, the one who ordains within the diocese). Her role in the wider diocese is to help the bishop manage the myriad details around clergy transitions, parish development, and ministry in its fullest sense. I have known Alicia for many years, and she has been a constant support for me since I was ordained. It will be a joy to have her share with us as we observe the Feast of the Holy Cross.

COG preschool moms are invited to come explore the Myths and Misconceptions around Motherhood with the Rev. Dr. Cynthia Park on Thursday, September 22 at 9:30 AM. We’ll meet in the Grace Church Greeting Area for coffee, treats, and conversation.
We still have open spots in our weekly rotation of wonderful volunteers who staff the front desk at the parish office. So, if you call and no one answers in person, you’ll be forwarded to the selection menu to choose a person in order to leave a voicemail. Also, if you come during the week, whoever is here at any given time will listen for the doorbell to ring. We’ll continue to do what we can to be available, but ask those of you calling or visiting the parish office to have patience if there are delays answering the doorbell or phone! You can also reach out to us any time via email.
Our parish member directory is now available online! Access ACS is available to Grace members through a secure log in with a username and password. After creating your account, you’ll be able to see directory information for other members, as well as make changes to your own profile.
If you want to share a work of art, or if you have a favorite poem you’d like to read, at the Art & Spirit event on October 5, reach out to Fr. Stuart at stuart@gracechurchgainesville.org.
Look ahead to upcoming opportunities for prayer, worship, and community!
