News June 25 – July 1

Groundbreaking on Sunday, July 9

I am excited to share that the Vestry approved the recommendations from the Buildings & Grounds and Finance Committees, and we are moving forward with the Bicentennial Campaign Project! So much work has gone into the details of this project, from the renovations of the Grace Center office and Christian Education building, bathrooms, landscaping, signage, and other needed repairs. I invite you to mark your calendars for a special groundbreaking ceremony on Sunday, July 9 following the 10:45 service. We will process at the end of the service to the front of the Grace Center to give thanks to God for the ability to enhance and refurbish the campus. (For those who are coming to the Newcomer luncheon, we will then go back to the Parish Hall to share our time together).

That being said, if you have not had a chance to send in your pledge—or if it has completely slipped your mind—there is still time to do so. Please click to watch the video above that shares my gratitude for all the ways this community supports our common life.

Blessings, always,
Stuart

Summer Series Continues Wednesday

The summer series, Dialogues in Creation, continues Wednesday evening, June 28, from 5:30 to 7:00 PM in-person in the Parish Hall at Grace and online via Zoom. Email Cynthia or Stuart with questions.

Vestry

The vestry will not meet in June. The next meeting will be Wednesday, July 26 at 7:00 PM in the conference room.

Newcomer Luncheon

Newcomers to Grace (in the past 3 years or so) are invited to a special luncheon at noon on Sunday, July 9, following the 10:45 service. If you would like to attend please email Fr. Stuart no later than Thursday, June 29 so we can plan for food. If anyone needs nursery care for children 4 and under, please let him know when you email to RSVP. Older children are welcome to join us for lunch.

Introduction to Centering Prayer Workshop

Do you seek the still small voice of God? Do you seek a more intimate relationship with God? Come and find a way to deepen your relationship with God. The Grace Centering Prayer group and Contemplative Outreach of Atlanta invite you to an Introduction to Centering Prayer Workshop in the parish hall at Grace on Wednesday, July 12, 9:15 AM – 3:30 PM.

This workshop is designed to share the method of Centering Prayer and to offer support in making it a part of daily life. It includes themes of Prayer as Relationship, The Method of Centering Prayer, Thoughts and Use of the Sacred Word, and Deepening Our Relationship with God, time in Centering Prayer, and the opportunity to discuss questions.

The presenter is Vernon Dixon, who is a prayerful commissioned Contemplative Outreach presenter. Registration is free and includes light snacks and coffee. Please bring your own sack lunch. If you have questions, please contact Joanna Brunson (COA) or Karen Murphy (Grace Episcopal).

Hearing Assistance for Services

Did you know the Nave is equipped with hearing assistance equipment? If you experience hearing difficulties and have a hard time hearing part of the worship service, one of our personal hearing receivers may help you to hear better.

The units have an ear speaker that fits over your ear, or you may use your own earphone, earbud, or headphone. The ear speaker plugs into a receiver, a little larger than a deck of cards, which can either sit in the pew next to you, go in a pocket, or clip on a belt / pocket. Other than the ear speaker the units are wireless, allowing you to sit wherever you would like. You adjust your own volume as needed.

The units are recharged each week and placed in the Narthex ready to go for services. They are located in translucent plastic envelopes in a basket on the credence table. Inside each envelope is the instruction sheet, receiver, ear speaker and extension cable.

Contact Jeremy with questions.

Day in the Mountains at Vogel

Since 2004 Grace Church has gathered at Vogel State Park in Blairsville for lunch, fellowship, and outdoor fun. Located at the base of Blood Mountain in the Chattahoochee National Forest, with an elevation of 2,500 feet, Vogel is a great spot to spend a hot summer day.

This year’s picnic is on the calendar for Saturday, July 29. Visit our website for all the details and please let Jeremy Landers know you plan to attend by Sunday, July 23.

Save the Date

Look ahead to upcoming opportunities for prayer, worship, and community!
