2024 Weekly News

Date Posted: August 16, 2024

News August 18-24

Sundays in August

CE Classes at Grace don’t start until September 8 but we are offering a series of special events during the formation hour (9:30 – 10:30 AM) on Sundays in August.

The gathering on August 18 will focus on the nave and liturgical spaces with Fr. Stuart and Jason Voyles, our head verger. If you have ever wondered what the difference is between a ciborium and a purificator, or, honestly, why we call this special space the nave, this tour is for you.

Introducing the Glimpses of Grace Podcast!

For a while now, we have wondered about a way to foster deeper conversations around the practice of faith and our deep desire to make meaning. We share sermons in various ways online, but when Mike McPeek came on staff as our Worship Technology Assistant, he and Jennifer Williams, our Director of Communication, worked with me to help set up an incredible opportunity. We have launched the Glimpses of Grace podcast, which you are able to access on Spotify, the parish website, or your podcast app of choice.

We will have each week’s sermon as well as monthly (we hope) conversations with great souls in the parish that keep the momentum going as we all reflect on what gives us hope and peace.

So, explore and see if this resource helps you and your family (including youth!) reflect and nurture your spiritual growth.

Blessings,
Stuart

Grace Center Front Door

The front door of the Grace Center is operational again for those visiting the parish office Monday – Thursday from 10 AM – 4 PM. Please ring the bell at the red double doors that face Brenau Avenue.

Pilgrimage to Greece

Fr. Stuart will lead a pilgrimage to Greece October 13-21, 2025 that is centered around St. Paul, as well as the key virtues of Truth, Goodness, and Beauty. Registration is now open and the trip is limited to 30 people.

Appeal for Teachers and Volunteers

Are you passionate about nurturing young Christians? We’re seeking volunteers to join our team for children and youth formation. Whether you’re experienced or new to working with young people, your presence can make a profound impact.

Join us in guiding young ones in Children’s Chapel; storytelling or assisting for Godly Play; leading or assisting older elementary students as they learn with Whirl; or being a mentor for middle school and high school youth.

Contact Fr. Brandon to learn more about how you can get involved!

Join the Parish Choir

We’d love to have you a part of the Grace Choir this next season. Our first rehearsal is Wednesday, August 28. Welcome Back Gathering begins at 6:30 PM in the Greeting Area with a few snacks and drinks. Rehearsal will follow at 7 PM in the Choir Room.

We are especially hoping to see some basses, altos and tenors join us this season! Rehearsal is every Wednesday, 7-9 PM. We sing for the 10:45 AM Sunday Eucharist. Grace Choir will host our 4th annual Messiah Sing Along on December 15, present a concert on Christmas Eve at 9:30 PM preceding the 10 PM Mass, and perform Faure’s Requiem on March 30.

Please send Music Director & Organist Lynn Swanson any questions you may have.

Save the Date: Parish Feast Day & Picnic

We are combining our annual parish feast day, the Feast of the Holy Cross, with our annual parish picnic for 2024!

Please make note that there will be one combined service at 10:00 AM on Sunday, September 15. We will take a new parish family photo (see previous photos) in the nave immediately following the service and then enjoy a potluck picnic and fellowship.

Women’s Retreat Registration Continues

The women of Grace Church will enjoy a weekend of rejoicing, reflection, and renewal January 17 – 19, 2025 at the Montreat Retreat and Conference Center in Montreat, North Carolina.
