The imposition of ashes, a reminder that we are from dust and to dust we return, begins the penitential season of Lent.
Join us for Ash Wednesday services on March 5 at 12:00 PM in the nave and 7:00 PM in the nave and online. The service will feature music, prayers, a sermon, the Litany of Penitence, and the Imposition of Ashes. Let us focus our prayers in these days as we remember that God’s presence surrounds us.
Compline will not meet on zoom as usual on Tuesday, March 4. Instead, the service will be held in the parish hall at the end of the Pancake Supper!
Centering Prayer is adding an in-person option on Fridays at 6 PM in the parlor just off the parish hall. The in-person option will begin March 7. The group will continue to meet on Zoom at 5 PM on Mondays as well. The link can be found in the ON THE CALENDAR section of the newsletter.
Centering Prayer is a contemplative method of prayer that facilitates opening the mind and heart to God. Gatherings consist of a brief opening; sitting in silence for 20 minutes ending with the Lord’s Prayer, then a sharing of video or short discussion of spiritual topic of choice. All are welcome, including those new to Centering Prayer!
Please note that the Caregiver Support Group, which usually meets in the parlor at 5:30 PM on the first Tuesday each month, will meet in the conference room in the Grace Center on March 4. The group provides a space for those caring for dementia patients to relieve stress, find comfort, and share resources. Contact Darlene Hauserman with questions.
Youth (grades 6-12) will gather for fun and fellowship from 5-7 PM in the parish hall on Sunday, March 2.
Beginning this Sunday, March 2, and continuing through Lent, the Sunday Forum will focus on essential questions around what we call our sacred texts. Have you ever wondered where the Bible “came from?” Have you wondered how the many different books were gathered into the collection we have today? Each book has a story, and the Bible itself is much more a library than a single book. It is complex to say the least, with a very wide range of genres to explore. We will look at the Old Testament (Hebrew texts), the New Testament, as well as the Apocrypha. Bring your Bible and a notebook and be prepared to explore.
Also, some have asked about a particular version or translation of the Bible. We use the New Revised Standard Version in our services, and the Common English Bible is a recent update that is very good. You may also find the Jewish Study Bible fascinating.
CE classes meet from 9:30 – 10:30 AM most Sundays until May 4. Exceptions are April 6, April 13, and April 20.
Look ahead to upcoming opportunities for prayer, worship, and community!
