Community Food Pantry Drive
The Gainesville Hall Community Food Pantry was established in 1972 and has been helping to support families in Hall County living in food-insecure settings. Our mission is to serve individuals in need of food. Grace Episcopal Church is one of the five churches in the area that keep our pantry running. We coordinate volunteer efforts to offer food to families in need twice a week, and each month we serve approximately 150 families.
The past year has been tough for many food pantries, as the supply of available canned foods and non-perishable items has decreased, and the need for these items has grown.
Food Insecurity in Georgia
Food insecurity is a public health issue when individuals experience a consistent lack of food to have a healthy life. In Georgia, we are not immune from this issue and its devastating impact on individuals and families. 11% of Georgians are food insecure meaning that they do not always know when they will find their next meal. Not having enough nutritious food leads to serious mental and physical issues. Food-insecure adults are more likely to have chronic health illnesses like diabetes and heart disease. Children’s mental health and academic achievement are negatively impacted when they are food insecure. Seniors who are food insecure are likely to suffer from insufficient nutrient intake leading to malnourishment and depression (Feeding America, 2022).
How You Can Help
We are asking for donations of food to supplement the supplies we have in our pantry. We are especially low on peanut butter, canned tuna fish, boxed dry cereal, and boxed dried pasta. We will collect these items at Grace Church from February 26 until March 13. Items can be delivered to the parish office Monday – Thursday from 10 AM until 4 PM or to the Greeting Area outside the Parish Hall on Sundays. Thank you for your support of our community.
