News November 5-11

Choral Evensong

Join us for an Evensong for The Feast of All Saints this Sunday, November 5, at 4:00 PM.

Sung at the close of day in Cathedrals and churches all over the world, Choral Evensong focuses on the ancient practice of singing evening prayers. The congregation listens, joins in the hymns, and adds their own prayers to those of the choir.

The Grace Church parish choir will also offer several Evensongs in 2024, on January 28, March 3, April 21, May 19, and June 9, in preparation for their residency at Cathedral Church of St. Peter in Exeter, England from August 5-11, 2024.

Time Change!

Daylight saving time ends at 2:00 AM this Sunday, November 5. Don’t forget to set your clocks back one hour.

Stewardship Ingathering

This Sunday, November 5, is our Stewardship Ingathering! We hope you will prayerfully consider how you can share in this pivotal part of our common life, and return your pledge at the link below.

The vestry will soon begin making calls to those we have not heard from as a pastoral way to follow up.

Vestry Nominating Committee Meeting

The Vestry Nominating Committee will meet Sunday, November 5 from 9:30 – 10:30 AM in the parlor. Meetings of the nominating committee are open to all members of the parish. If you are interested in running, or nominating someone, for an open vestry position please drop by the meeting and make that known to the committee.

COHI Q&A November 5

Anyone seeking new ways to serve is invited to explore the Benedictine-steeped Community of Hope International (COHI). A new class is planned beginning in January. If you’d like to learn more, or have specific questions, please stop by the parlor following the 10:45 AM service on Sunday, November 5 to chat with current COHI members.

New Class: (Trying to) Make Sense of the World with Scripture, Tradition, and Reason

These are days that call for an intentional practice of prayer, and we are invited to see how our practice of faith truly can offer a space for reflection and meaning-making. Perhaps in times like these (as we have experienced before) we are challenged not only to see our faith as something we “do” or share in on Sunday mornings, but also to see it as a lens that we see the world through—or as the ground on which we stand. But of course we need to practice this, don’t we?

Cynthia and I invite you to join us for a special Sunday forum for three weeks, November 5, 12, and 19, as we reflect together and discern how the Spirit is at work. We will use the traditional Anglican framework of Scripture, Tradition, and Reason to help guide our conversations. To help prepare, you might pay attention to how you spend your time and what sources you are currently drawing from. We are saturated by news stories; what if we were equally saturated by our practice of prayer?
