Organ Concert

Grace Friends of Music is pleased to welcome Organist Herbert Buffington in concert on Sunday, March 5 at 4:00 PM. Admission is free; a reception will follow in the parish hall.

Buffington, a native of Atlanta, holds degrees from Duke University and the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University. European study was at the Vienna International Music Center and the Hochschule für Musik in Vienna, Austria. He is nationally recognized for his artistry and skill in organ improvisation and his work has been featured many times on Minnesota Public Radio’s “Performance Today” and American Public Media’s “Pipedreams.”

The concert will also be livestreamed to Facebook and to our website. Those watching from home may view the program here.

Special Music Featured on Sunday

Each Sunday during Lent will find us experiencing a special aspect of music in our shared worship at the 10:45 AM service. Last Sunday we shared the Great Litany, the ancient prayer/chant that the church has used for almost fifteen centuries to help ground us both in Lent and in other crucial moments of life.

This Sunday, we will welcome Amy Thropp, Music Director and Cantor Emeritus from Congregation Beth Shalom in Dunwoody. She will chant the psalm in Hebrew to help ground us even more in our Lenten worship. As well, our parish choir will offer a special anthem sung in Hebrew as well as we continue to reflect deeply on the images and prayers that Lent invites us to explore.

I hope you’ll make it a point of sharing in worship this Sunday, adding your voice and presence in this rich season of our common life.

Bible Study Class to Join Rector’s Forum Beginning March 5

Beginning Sunday March 5, the Adult Bible Study Class, which had been meeting in the Chapel, will join with Fr. Stuart’s Rector’s Forum for the continuation of the series on the foundations of our Anglican tradition. (The Bible Study Class will resume in the fall.) These are rich conversations, indeed, as we bring together our work around thoughtfully engaging Holy Scripture with the other two legs of our classic three-legged stool — tradition and reason. Whether you are new to Bible study, new to the Episcopal Church, or have been around since Thomas Cranmer wrote the Prayer Book, your voice is welcome in this venue. We look forward to meeting together on Sunday mornings at 9:30 AM in the Parish Hall.
