The Art of Taking Refuge

A Time of Rest, Practice, and Reflection

Where online
When Saturday, October 7
Guided by Stuart Higginbotham and Bobbi Patterson
Offered by The Center for Prayer and Spiritual Practice

As uncertainties grow and anxieties wound, how do we recognize God’s wellspring of care for us? How do we listen with hope? How can we ask, “Give me that living water?” As we reflect on our practice of prayer, how is God’s Love offering us refuge? When and why are we intentional about where we find refuge? What nurtures a deeper sense of resilience in our daily lives?

Come share space for prayer, silence, and reflection at a short retreat on Saturday, October 7 from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM via Zoom. Listen to the yearnings of your heart. Poetry, meditation, and guiding questions will be offered as we discover and name our struggles and hopes in the midst of life’s gifts and graces.

There is no cost for this space; please register below on or before Thursday, October 5 to receive the Zoom link.

Retreat Guided by

Bobbi Patterson

The Rev. Bobbi Patterson (she/her), PhD, Professor Emerita at Emory University, cultivates conversation, discovery, and action born at the intersection of contemplative practice and community engagement. Trained academically as an Interdisciplinarian, her research and publications range from women’s embodied spirituality to Christian contemplative traditions to place-based knowledge and pedagogies for earth-care. Building relationships by listening to stories, she supports locally led reflections and acts of adaptive resilience—the ongoing work of staying with troubles to discern adaptive next steps. Her nationally awarded teaching builds on a range of strategies linking learning to work for positive change. An Episcopal priest and member of the Fellowship of St. John the Evangelist, a monastic community, she has studied Buddhist teaching and practices for many years. Her recent book (2020) is Building Resilience Through Contemplative Practice: A Field Manual for Helping Professionals and Volunteers
