The Annual Parish Meeting of Grace Episcopal Church in its 195th year was held on Wednesday, February 1 in person and streamed via Zoom. Thank you to all 8 parishioners who agreed to stand for election to the vestry. We are always fortunate to have a great slate of candidates to choose from! Elected this year were: Jim Brim, Stuart Deaderick, Helen Scovill, and Anita Smith. A special thanks to Chaudron Gille, Christy Wagner, Newsom Cummings, and Tom Rossi who have completed their three-year terms on the vestry and to Callie Flack who is stepping down as treasurer. Our new treasurer is Amy Munn. Sonja McLendon remains the Senior Warden and Julia Greene will be the new Junior Warden in 2023.
A new four-part Bible Study series will begin on Sunday, February 5 at 9:30 AM in the Chapel. We will be exploring the subject of violence as it is woven throughout the Old and New Testaments. The suggested readings for each week will be published in the newsletter. All are welcome to join this discussion, with an open mind, heart, and imagination, seeking to respectfully engage the Word of God as revealed in Holy Scripture.
The Caregiver Support Group, sponsored by Alzheimer’s Association Georgia, will meet in the parlor at 5:30 PM on Tuesday, February 7. Alzheimer’s Association® support groups, conducted by trained facilitators, provide a space for those caring for dementia patients to relieve stress, find comfort, and share resources. The group is open to all.
The remarkable author and mystic Howard Thurman challenges us to listen deeply for the “sound of the genuine” in our lives. In a world that is full of noise and distraction, we are reminded again of the invitation we have to ground ourselves in an abiding awareness of the Spirit’s presence. How can we deepen our practice of prayer so that we can respond more faithfully in this time? We invite you to come and share in a day of listening, rhythm, prayer, poetry, and fellowship on Saturday, February 25 as we reflect together on what it means to be grounded in our practice of faith.
The day will be spacious with time to reflect and rest. River Guerguerian, a renowned percussionist with remarkable gifts for helping us understand the power of sound, will guide us through a series of exercises to help pay attention. We will also share in an imaginative worship space with poetry readings and reflections from Lerita Coleman Brown, Barbara Brown Taylor, Bobbi Patterson, Rebecca Parker, and Stuart Higginbotham. Our deep hope is that your heart can be nurtured as we all seek to live more faithfully.
