While we will have some of our teachers out for both the Women’s Retreat and the holiday weekend, we are working to have a special combined Sunday school class this Sunday for children and youth. Meg McPeek and Fr. Stuart will be in the youth room to welcome any children and youth who may want to share in a special service project (as well as have donuts and juice). We’re happy to welcome those who are going to be here this weekend as we keep our eyes turned on the importance of serving the community in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.
In addition, Fr. Stuart is working a special children’s sermon at the 10:45 AM service so come share in that space!
For adults, we will continue the forum with the Rev. John Cromartie this Sunday, January 15. John is here to share a conversation around the rich work of the mystic and civil rights icon Howard Thurman. We will meet in the Parish Hall.
The parenting class will continue, as well, in the Conference Room.
Note: The Bible Study class will not meet on January 15 or 22 to allow everyone the chance to hear John Cromartie’s valuable presentation.
The parish office will be closed on Monday, January 16.
Get “On Target “ for 2023 with friends old and new. Sunday, January 22, from 3:00 – 5:00 PM at the Georgia Gun Club indoor shooting range, followed by pizza and conversation. Range cost is $35 per person and includes rental of a pistol if you need one, but you are welcome to bring your own. Sign up online by January 19. Additional advance information with links to a required safety video and liability release will be provided to all registered attendees.
On Saturday, February 25 we will gather for a retreat around the theme of The Sound of the Genuine: Becoming More Alive in the Spirit’s Presence. River Guerguerian, a world-renowned percussionist from Asheville, will lead us through a series of guided meditations as we reflect on the power of sound, integrating both themes offered through the reflections of Howard Thurman, mystic, pastor, and civil rights leader as well as poetry and other reflections to highlight the call to listen and discern as a community. We will also welcome other friends from around the area, including: Lerita Coleman Brown, Barbara Brown Taylor, Bobbi Patterson and Rebecca Parker.
Look ahead to upcoming opportunities for prayer, worship, and community!
