Parish Choir Announces Residency at Cathedral Church of St. Peter in Exeter, England

The Grace Church Choir has been invited to serve as Choir in Residence at Cathedral Church of St. Peter in Exeter, England from August 5-11, 2024. Music Director and Organist Lynn Swanson submitted application in April to the Head of the Liturgy Tom Salmon at Exeter Cathedral. The choir received its official invitation this week. The choir will provide service music for choral evensong at daily services throughout the week they are in residence. The choir will also have opportunities to tour surrounding parts of the region during their stay.

Exeter is a city in Devon in South West England. Dating back to the Roman era, the Exeter City Walls surround its centre and Gothic Exeter Cathedral. Exeter Cathedral is an Anglican cathedral, and the seat of the Bishop of Exeter. The founding of the cathedral dates from 1050. It was consecrated in 1133.The present building was complete by about 1400. It has several notable features, including an early set of misericords, an astronomical clock and the longest uninterrupted medieval stone vaulted ceiling in the world.

In preparation for this residency, the choir will present choral evensongs over the coming liturgical seasons at Grace Church. We are excited to share this news with you knowing you too, share in our excitement.
