News for January 24-30

Ballots and Bios Mailed

The election of the vestry is a pivotal moment in the life of a parish community. The twelve people you choose as your vestry take their place in partnership with the rector and staff to provide for the life of the entire community. Information about our vestry nominees has been mailed to parishioner households. Please spend some time reading the bios and praying for these vestry nominees. Completed ballots must be returned to the parish office no later than 5:00 PM on Tuesday, February 9 in order to be counted before the Annual Meeting, which is set for Wednesday, February 10 at 7:00 PM on Zoom.

COG Registration for 2021-2022

Registration for the 2021-2022 academic year at COG for Episcopal families who are not currently enrolled opens Sunday, January 24. Openings will be made available to the general public on Thursday, January 28 starting at 9:30 AM. In an effort to streamline our processes and prioritize ease for families, you are now able to submit the registration application and pay the $75 non-refundable registration fee online. Both the application form and the registration fee must be processed through the COG office in order for a child to be placed in a classroom. You may use the online application form and send in a check made out to COG if you wish. Please contact the COG office at 770.536.9088 or email Ansley Forrester or Meg McPeek if you have any questions.

Book Study

Our book study of Diana Butler Bass’s pivotal work Christianity After Religion is off to a great start and it is not too late to join in. The study is held on Zoom two times each week, Mondays or Tuesdays from 6:00 – 7:00 PM. The remaining dates are January 25 or 26, February 1 or 2, and 8 or 9. Choose whether Monday or Tuesday works best for you each week and log on.

Lent@Home

The season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 17, with an invitation to observe a holy Lent. Since we’re not yet back to observing it in our ordinary fashion, we are preparing Lent@Home kits to help you observe a holy Lent at home. Kits will include ashes for Ash Wednesday, suggestions for your home altar, palm crosses for Palm Sunday, incense for Holy Week, and much more!

Kits will be ready for pick up at the church office the week before Ash Wednesday, but we need to know how many to prepare. To make sure we have enough and to reserve yours, please complete the kit reservation form below. Contact Cheryl with any questions.

Forward Day by Day

Forward Day by Day is a booklet of daily inspirational meditations reflecting on a specific Bible passage, chosen from the daily lectionary readings as listed in the Revised Common Lectionary or the Daily Office from the Episcopal Church’s Book of Common Prayer. Copies (limited quantity) of the booklet for February/March/April are now available and can be picked up in the bin at the front doors to the church office. If you would like a copy mailed to you, email your address to Jess Voyles. Please specify if you would like a regular or large print edition.

The meditation is also posted online every day of the year for you to consider and discuss, and available as a daily email, podcast, or via smartphone app at the Forward Movement website.
