Reflections on our Pilgrimage

Hello from our happy, joy-filled and deliriously tired Pilgrimage family! What a trip!

Despite major travel delays on both ends of our trip, this has been a week marked by the assurance of being exactly where the Lord wanted us. Ecclesiastes 7:14 says “In the day of prosperity be joyful, and in the the day of adversity consider: God has made the one as well as the other.” It really was a gift to learn the truth of this Scripture together – to practice finding joy with each other even during adversity! And we quickly realized that the small challenge of canceled travel plans allowed us the gift of close bonding for our group.

After flying into Scotland Monday, we traveled to Iona in a small boat gliding over waves shining golden in the late evening sun. The sense of wonder and abundant beauty on this island carried us through the next magical days, as we walked together, worshipped, explored and rested.

The Edinburgh portion of our journey was full of historic architecture, cathedral and castle tours, and some free moments to explore, shop and walk around the city together.

Throughout our time, we discussed the beauty and meaning of impermanent experiences in our lives. We hope that our memories of these short few days will take a permanent shape in the way we relate to each other and our community…that the fleeting beauty we shared together will take root by deepening the mark of God’s hand on our hearts.

All of us have stories to share and mementoes to show you, our family at Grace. We are so grateful for your support of our journey, and we look forward to sharing with you the ways in which this trip has changed us. In the meantime, please enjoy these snapshots of our pilgrimage!
